DIAND is entering a key phase of public consultation leading to the selection of a management alternative for the arsenic trioxide dust stored at Giant Mine. As a forerunner to the consultation, DIAND's Communication Directorate sponsored five focus groups to evaluate the public's understanding of, and concerns about the status of Giant Mine and the arsenic trioxide dust. Forty-one (41) local residents participated in the focus groups that were held in Yellowknife, Ndilo, and Dettah. Eleven of these participants were youth.
